Our three little paratroopers had a blast this Halloween.  After our usual stops, we headed over to the Tacky’s, and had a little food and fun just before dark.  Then it was time to take off for the real fun.  This year, Scout and Navy went out on their own.  They both had groups of kids their same gender and age to head out with, and I would catch them every once in a while as they ran from house to house.

But the most fun this year was seeing Dash in action.
This boy had it down to a science!
He charmed everyone and had his saying all right.

At first I would head to the doors with him, but then he took some solo missions which melted everyone!
He would walk slowly, and then say, “Twick or Tweet”.
After getting double the amount of candy because they loved him, he would say, “Tee Too” then turn around and say “Happy HOW….WEEN!” as he headed down the walkway and to the next house.
It was honestly the cutest thing you have ever seen.
-
When we all congregated again, Scout was beyond excited about his massive quantity of candy.
When I asked how much he had already eaten, he said in the don’t-you-know tone, “None.”
The apple fell far on this one.
And when I asked Navy how it was, she loved it.
But a little birdie (AKA a mother with the group) said, “That girl is a character!”
I already know this, but I asked why?
And she told me that at every single house, Navy would fake throw up or fake cry until the house owner asked her if she was alright.
When they did, she got a huge smile across her face and said, “I’m just tricking!”
She literally caught everyone in her little spun web of whatever you want to call it!
-
The kids spent the night going through their candy and sorting it, and I spent the night picking out all of the good stuff.
Meanwhile, Pippi stayed at home with the Nonster and B.
I was sad to leave her behind, because she was going to be the baby that came down from the sky in a basket and a parachute…right alongside the three others.
But even I thought that four days out of the hospital and barely 5 lbs was pushing it.

KR Crazy Days

Navy’s school had a series of crazy days this week.
You know I am a sucker for anything dress-up, so I was as excited as she was.
But unfortunately, as we drove into school on Tuesday, and saw a bunch of kids dressed up, I realized that we both had forgotten.

Good thing it was Superhero/Princess Day.
Cause we were just two Sharpies away from my little girl turning into Super Navy!

This girl is definitely my daughter.
She was more excited about Super Navy than any old princess!

We really made up for the previous day on Wacky Wednesday!
Most kids had different colored socks, or their shirt on backwards.
Not us!
Several people thought she looked like a character out of a Seuss book.
You mean….Wacky?!

Her final day was Cowgirl/Cowboy Day.
I was lamenting to her that we didn’t have anything cowgirl, when she exclaimed, “YES we do Mama!  I have my cow outfit, and I am a girl!”
Why yes we do!
So with her cow outfit on, and some bows on the cow’s ears….this girl was one heck of a cowgirl!

Navy, you nailed it this week!

Carruthy + 4

img_0584-2013-10-30-at-14-59-48.jpg
Thank goodness my mom joined in on our Carruthy visit.
She is always a chamo at entertaining with things like Simon Says.
The oldest three were there for Flu Nose Spray.
And Pippi was there to get a check up.
img_0585-2013-10-30-at-15-05-35.jpg
She checked out pretty good to the naked eye.
Her weight coming home was 5 lbs even, and today she weighed in at 5 lbs. 5 oz.
img_0589-2013-10-30-at-15-23-56.jpg
But Sweet Thing needed a heel prick to check her hemoglobin.
She came home from the NICU with it at 8.2, and she was at a 10.5 today!
YAY!
So far so good.
The fear of going back into the hospital for another transfusion is off the tables for the moment.

2nd Chance

Scout has to log into a computer program at school and for part of his homework that is really complicated.  In an effort to speed the process up, his teacher assigned them to learn the log-in and password and that they would be tested on it.  She made the test a boys vs. girls test, and they were all hyped up.  Each test, she randomly picks a boy’s name and a girl’s name out to compete.  Last week, Scout was picked to represent the boys.  He clocked in at 1min.12sec. and beat the girls.  But upon a closer look, he made the error of skipping a letter and got DQ’d.  He was totally bummed and his teacher said he hung his head as he walked back to the seat while the girls celebrated.
-
Fast forward to today.  The test was on again.  She picked out a random name again, and Scout was picked again to represent!  This week, he clocked in at 42 seconds flat.  It was a class record, he beat the girls and got it all correct!
-
Keep in mind, I knew nothing of any of this, and was enlightened by his teacher.
When I asked him about this, he told me the story of last week to this week.  You could tell he was so proud.  And then I asked how he got so much faster.  He told me, “Mom, I went home and practiced it a thousand times so I could beat everyone the next time.”
Good for him!
I am one proud mama!

Scout’s Halloween School Party

Life has been hectic lately.  But I am the party planner of Scout’s class, and the show must go on!

So this year we went simple and made Ghost suckers, had a bunch of Halloween snacks, and played wrap the Mummy.
I’ll have to admit that I made it really easy on myself, but it was a hit.
The kids loved the ghosts, but loved loved the game.

A Pirate’s Life

Dash has quite the opinion when I open his clothes drawer.
The only thing he has an affinity for is his long-sleeved pirate shirt.
So when it is cool enough for long sleeves, and it is clean, it is usually his outfit of the day.
The only worrisome thing about this shirt is that I swear it makes him behave like a pirate.
img_0596-2013-10-30-at-17-04-37.jpg
Like this day when we were at Scout’s soccer practice, and he found garbage in the form of a CapriSun and drank the remnants.
Why did I take a picture instead of confiscate it?
Pirates are immune to germs!
img_0598-2013-10-30-at-17-09-09.jpg
But when this little pirate did finally get a scolding, he found a long tree branch and took off — probably to go build a ship to sail away.
Why didn’t I stop him?
Pirates like their mommies way too much!

Happy Helper

img_1753-2013-10-29-at-13-32-17.jpg
I’m glad to report that Scout’s teachers see in him exactly what I do.
He is happy.
He is a helper.
And together….he is one Happy Helper.

Caramel Apples

I love to cook.  And I am pretty decent at it.
I hate to bake.  And every cookie I have ever made will attest to that.
Candy making?….I thought I would give it a whirl.
Especially since Debra brought over the already made caramel and the apples.
img_1762-2013-10-30-at-18-40-00.jpg
It was basically a heat up and dip job.
The kids loved it.
I liked hanging out with them.
But…
I hate candy making.
-
I think what it comes down to is this…if something has to be precise, count me out!
If I can add a dash or a pinch to my creation….I’m game!

Halloween Awards

img_0561-2013-10-28-at-19-30-57.jpg
These might not be the cutest homemade awards, but for FHE tonight, we drove around and awarded decorated houses.
Creepiest, Best Lights, Scariest, etc.
The kids loved every second of it.  And since we were doing it anonymously, they had to ding dong ditch the recipients.  That may have been most of the fun for the kids.  But at one house, they got caught, and the woman engaged them in a conversation.  Micah and I could hear it from the car, and it was darling.  Even Micah said that he couldn’t believe how poised they were speaking to an adult, and that they had great manners.
I would agree.
These two….if nothing else….can hold their own in a conversation with someone else.
But the sidenote is — they kind of have to want to.
But when they want to, they certainly can.

Besties

img_0556-2013-10-28-at-12-36-31.jpg
The times when Navy isn’t teasing or grabbing something out of Dash’s hands, these two are best buds.
