Scout wasn’t very happy when he woke up…..

Current Score is 1-1

Our most recent battle was our annual Christmas tree decorating contest. For the past few years, Micah and I have been splitting the tree in half and decorating our own side, only to have it judged to see who wins. Micah took home this win last year (what a joke, since he used the decorations I found in the attic), but I was NOT going to let the punk win this year. So I had a perfect plan up my sleeve. The theme this year was “Around The House”, which meant that everything except the lights had to be found around the house…with absolutely NO USE of Christmas decorations! I knew I had him on this one, since I am definitely the creative thinker in this relationship.

I teamed up with Skilly, and I was surprisingly happy with my partner’s ability to create, think outside of the box….but most of all to trash talk! I think she is right up there with Muhammad Ali when it comes to badgering our opponents, and making them regret their decision for entering the competition. Micah was with Calin, who literally turned out to be his own personal sweat shop. She basically cut out and taped lame paper chain for two hours straight. BORING! Their tree ended up looking like a tree that a paper monster had thrown up on. Ours, on the other hand, was a glittery gold/snowy day with snowballs masterpiece! It was honestly a piece of art. There was absolutely NO question of who the clear winner was.

We went up, had dinner, came back down to present our sides to the judges. Skilly and I had worked up a thought-provoking, glorious and moving presentation. We presented first, and the judges faces were covered nostalgia and smiles. Skilly and I gave each other a secret high five, trying not to appear too excited to go 2-0 against the others. To save their embarrassment, I told them they didn’t even have to present if they didn’t want to. They said they did, but to give them a few minutes to set up. (Give me a break….we didn’t need a few extra minutes!) Then….like clockwork, Micah brought out his one saving grace. (But let me mention that it is ANYTHING but original!) They set up a piece of white cardboard that was decorated like a present on the side of their tree. They set up the projector (I told you it wasn’t original….but Micah fought it with, “but it was ‘around the house”) and showed The Polar Express on the side of their tree. They passed out hot chocolate and popcorn….and their entire presentation was, “Enjoy the show.” What a joke!

Don’t ask me how, but it ended up in a tie. Because we wouldn’t accept a stupid tie, they ended up giving the win to the jokesters. I am convinced it is because Micah has my mom’s name for Christmas this year, and she wants something extra good. Now our whole competition is in a tie….I guess in honor of the Christmas Spirit…I won’t contest the verdict.

More business for the Tooth Fairy coming up…..

Scout, at 6 months and 3 weeks, cut his first tooth!  It is his bottom right tooth, and there really were no signs of the pain he was going through, although he was a tiny bit cranky yesterday.  He wasn’t drooling much, nor did he have a fever or runny nose (which I have heard are the symptoms).  However, he did bite on a teether last night and yelped afterwards…three times.  I figured he wasn’t in the mood for a chewing toy.  Little did I know he was probably cutting his tooth at that very moment.

Santa fills Scout in….

Delicious!

Scout, who has never used a straw, saw my mom drinking a smoothie the other day.  He was freaking out until he could get a crack at it.  I told my mom it wasn’t a big deal because he wouldn’t know how to use the straw anyway.  Well, about 20 seconds later he was screaming again, but this time it was from a brain freeze.  The little guy was a master at the straw, and drank about 1/2 a cup of the smoothie!

Scout’s 1st thanksgiving!

Scout’s first Thanksgiving was a complete success! It started out with the 5K at the Dana Point Turkey Trot. It was a bit chilly, so I dressed him in a duck outfit (kind of in the same family as the turkey). We walked the 5K with Skilly and Belly, and found the Orange County Bee buzzing around, so we got a picture. Afterwards, we went back and forth from my family’s Thanksgiving to Micah’s family’s feast. I attempted my very first pie ever — a coconut cream meringue pie. It was mighty good (even though I don’t like pie), and was a pretty decent hit. Scout had a full Thanksgiving feast, inclusive of mashed potatoes, jello, stuffing and turkey! He was in heaven the entire day. I think it is his favorite holiday so far, but with Christmas around the corner…..it won’t be for long!

Oui…Oui!

Two of Tristen’s purchases in Hong Kong were berets and black rimmed glasses. So for the past few weeks, the Ure gang has walked around town looking a little foolish…but it’s all in the name of a little fun (and according to Tristen…a little fashion). (Maybe in Hong Kong!)

One of our stops was the Body Exhibit in San Diego. We saw everything you would ever wish to see in the human body….and some you might not wish to see. It was fascinating and really informing. My favorite part was when all of my nieces and nephews saw the unmentionables, and couldn’t stop cracking up. Talk about immature!

Happy B Day Dear Momma…..

What a fun birthday we had for my mom.  We went to lunch with some fun ladies, then shopped, then went to dinner with the family!  Small and nice….just the way we like them!  XOXO Mom!!!!

I think you meant Competition!

One of the purchases we made in Hong Kong were fake Iwakos. Not because the originals were more expensive, but Iwakos are Japanese and we were in China. So when we brought home the fakeys, wouldn’t you know that the person most interested in them was…..Calin Rose Clifford AKA Competion! It wasn’t Skylar or me — both passionate and avid collectors, but the one who has been trying to rain on our Iwako parade from the beginning! When I went to my display shelf (next to her lame bouncy ball collection) this is what I found!

p1010400.jpg
Of course you are starting an eraser collection BECAUSE nobody wants bouncy balls.  I mean…..you can’t just “start” a collection.  You really have to think about what to collect, you have to devise your budget, you need to join appropriate clubs, etc.  When Skylar and I came up with Iwakos, it wasn’t a rash decision.  We knew that we were about to embark on something that had substance to it.  Something original.  Something special!  And then you come in and think you can just buy a few crappy erasers and have a piece.  I think NOT!  Have you carried your erasers through thick and thin?  Have you had them by your side every minute of every day?  I ask you…..HAVE YOU SLEPT WITH YOUR ERASERS?  And to add insult to injury…… these are the erasers you think you are going to scare us with….dream on Competion!
p1010398.jpg
(Only the ice cream cone is even in the running.  The crab is like what a two year old would like.  And those lame circle ones are the kind of crap you get when you go to a kids dentist.  We are all adults Competion….and until you can decipher (look it up) what that means as a collector, I will see you in passing only!)

6 month check-up STATS!

Scout is 16 lbs. 9 oz. He is in the 30th percentile for weight, the 60th percentile for height and the 70th percentile for head. So basically, I have a long and lean little boy who has a huge brain! Oh you mean I have Micah #2??? Let’s just hope he isn’t as much of a KIA as his dad!
