micahandlindsey.com goes live today
Here we’ll post all of the new and exciting things that occur in the lives of Lindsey and Micah. It’s Christmas time again and each year I come up with a creative personal gift for Lindsey. micahandlindsey.com is my answer to the age-old question: “What do you get for the girl who has everything?”
I’ve tried to pick out clothes before, but they’re usually opened to eyerolls and snickering. I actually bought Lindsey a dress this year expecting to give it to her for Christmas, but I decided to give it to her early since she’s pregnant and growing rapidly. Believe it or not, she loved it! And it looks great on her. Nice work Micah.
And today the new blog goes live. Merry Christmas, Lindsey!
Shem and Kasi came into town with their kids, and Megan brought her kids up for the day. There’s starting to be a bunch of commotion at the house, especially since everybody’s sick. Nearly every bathroom, and two different cars have been puked in and on over the past two days.

Last night Shem, Kasi, Lindsey, and I had an extended battle in Seafarers of Catan. Cassie was the eventual winner, but I’m calling for a rematch as soon as I get home. I’ve got some new strategies to try.
David is supposed to be coming into town sometime soon and we all are dying to hear his war stories. There’s been some speculation that he is being punished for providing us with too much secret information via email from Iraq, so we’ll have to get to the bottom of that.
And we haven’t heard from Ryan in over a month, but he’d never miss Christmas. Ryan’s always good for a few incredible stories.
On Sunday we went to visit Great Grandma. She hadn’t been eating or drinking for a couple of days and she wasn’t communicating anymore. She was just in a peaceful rest. Kelsi was there with my mom, Aunty Gail, and Grandma and Grandpa. Kelsi just got back from two years in Guatemala with the Peace Corps.
We hung out for a couple of hours and then Lindsey and I left for dinner. My aunties and uncles and cousins all showed up just after we left. While everybody was there, Great Grandma died. She just stopped breathing. I guess she was finally comfortable that everybody would be ok without her. How amazing to make it to 95!
On December 2 we had the inaugural Thacker-Denison start-of-Christmas bash at the Thacker’s house. Lindsey and Summer invited a bunch of couples that they thought would be fun and outgoing. It wasn’t a bunch of good friends-nobody really knew more that 3 or 4 other couples-but we had a hilarious and great time.

We all wore cheesy Christmas sweaters. Or at least we were supposed to. Almost everybody had some sort of sweater that you only see in bad movies, but Summer comes down in a perfectly matched Christmas vest and denim skirt. Typical Summer.
We picked up food from Mario’s and Marc Hemeon and I made a run to the store for red and green Mountain Dew when we determined that water just wouldn’t cut it. First we had a white-elephant gift exchange. The big hit was a Black Santa that somebody brought. I’ve never seen something like that, and everybody kept switching for it. Ultimately, the guy who brought it originally ended up with it. Classic.
I framed a copy of a picture that Summer has on her wall. Then I talked all night about how nasty and ugly the picture was that I brought. The girl sitting right under the picture opened my gift so it was perfect. I don’t think she got the joke since her back was to the picture on the wall, but everybody in the room thought it was hilarious. Summer must really like that picture because she ended up with it. Now she has mini-me art.
Lindsey completed a covert mission to Tristen’s condo and got Tristen’s dirty, tattered baby blanket. Tristen almost passed out when she saw it get opened. She had brought a guy that she barely knows (but that she really likes) to the party and was mortified when she got exposed.
Then the girls made hot chocolate in a Cocomotion machine. Supposedly it’s the best hot chocolate that’s ever been made. And Summer’s sister Katie brought out her ice-cream dessert balls. It’s balls of ice cream rolled in different toppings. There were a few different toppings, but the ones I remember were peppermint and coconut. I’d never seen that dessert before and it looked amazing. We did our regular gift exchange next. It was a $20 couples gift and people brought board games and dvds. I got an awesome bbq tool that helps you bbq fish. We’ll be having salmon soon.
The crowning moment of the night came when we were playing the name game. In this game everybody puts a couple of names on a small piece of paper and sticks them into a hat. The room is divided into two teams, and in the first round you get a minute to guess the name on the paper by giving clues that don’t include the person’s name. In the second round you give one-word clues. The game is only fun if all of the people playing are fun. And we had a fun group. Everybody was laughing hysterically, but it became something beyond hysterical when Marc Hemeon came up for round 3—charades.
He was not only great at charades, but also unbelievably funny. His clues were so animated and dead-on and we kept laughing harder and harder until Summer ended up rolling on the floor. By this time in the night she had changed into grey pajama bottoms, and when she rolled face down someone pointed out that she had wet her pants. Not just a little spot, but a full-blown disaster. The laughing raised beyond an uproar to where almost everybody had tears streaming down their face. It was all too much for everybody to handle and, on that great note, the party ended.
We finished up the night with a 5 man game of Catan. Marc, Micah, Lindsey, Bryan, and Summer. It was a great first year for the Thacker-Denison start-of-Christmas party, and we’re already scheming for next year.
